All Aboard!

Coate Water Railway expands with opening of new Richard Jefferies Halt station

A popular miniature railway in Swindon became a whole lot bigger over the weekend with the opening of a brand new station and track extension.

Double the length

The 645 metre loop extension has been under construction for over 4 years and is more than double the length of the previous Coate Water Railway layout.

"This part of the town is a real treasure with the beautiful country park, the railway and of course the Richard Jefferies Museum. We are delighted to be supporting this event as part of Swindon175 as we celebrate the town's heritage" commented Caroline Black, Swindon175 Project Manager.

Swindon South MP, Robert Buckland climbed aboard one of the many locomotives before cutting the ribbon and unveiling a sign for the new Richard Jefferies Halt station - named after the local museum.
